Comparisonitis

How successful are you?

Wildly? Enviably? Undeniably?

How successful do you want to be?

When my partner and I were dating, he tried to teach me to surf. As I was trying to paddle out, I kept getting smashed by breakers. I would put my head down and dig deep, only to be pushed back into the thick of it. From out beyond me, he called out “just paddle harder”…

Sometimes that’s what it feels like in life. You’re out there trying your best and you see all the people ahead of you and it feels like you haven’t accomplished enough. Like you should be further along by now.

It’s called comparisonitis. And it robs us of our joy and stops us from taking action in the direction of our dreams.

We need to have a new conversation about what it means to be successful.

I like how Dr Maya Angelou defined success asLiking yourself, liking what you do and liking how you do it.”

When you flip the script on success from external signposts and comparison to an internal measure of your own values and dreams, suddenly, the pressure goes down.

Is this you?

Have you been holding off working with me until you got more successful? Until you earned more? Weighed less? Until you were more successful?

You’re not alone! I have had 100s of women look me in the eyes and tell me as soon as they lose X kg, they can’t wait to treat themselves to a style session.

Believe it or not, I have been there too. I waited years before investing in a business coach because I didn’t think I was successful enough to engage one. The irony is, as soon as I started working with a coach, my business grew and grew.
